2013 CIAO “Scholars of the Year” Educational Grants Competition
The Colonial Italian American Organization (CIAO) is pleased to announce the annual CIAO “Scholars of the Year” Educational Grants Competition. This competition is open to local high school seniors and home-schooled students planning to pursue full-time, postsecondary studies in a two- or four-year accredited college, university, or vocational/ technical school beginning in fall, 2013. Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment in accordance with the requirements of the institution the applicant is planning to attend for the entire 2013 – 2014 academic year. It is not necessary to be Italian.
The purpose of this competition is to recognize and provide financial assistance to a maximum of four (4) local-area graduating seniors who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or above, and have exemplified positive social values as a result of participation in various school, church and/or community activities. In all instances, emphasis will be given to the applicant’s financial need and the availability of other resources to help defray the cost of post-secondary education. These awards will be made on a competitive basis from the applications received from each high school/academy/ home-school student in accordance with this solicitation. Eligibility is limited to qualified applicants presently residing in the immediate Williamsburg/ James City County school district area. Application forms are available at the Guidance Counselor Departments at each of the following high schools: Bruton, Jamestown, Lafayette, and Warhill High Schools, Walsingham and Williamsburg Christian Academies.

A $2000 “CIAO Scholar of the Year” education grant will be awarded to each selected winning applicant.
